Chocolate Frosted Orange Cookies Recipe
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all purpose, flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Orange Cookies Filling:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons orange extract
Chocolate Frosting:
4 – 1 ounce squares semi-sweet chocolate
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup sliced almonds, optional
Chocolate Frosted Orange Cookies Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 350° F.
In a large mixing bowl beat the butter until softened.
Add the vanilla and powdered sugar. Add the flour and salt and mix just until blended.
Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Divide the dough into thirds and roll out to about 1/8 " thickness on lightly floured surface.
Cut out with cookie cutters and place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet and bake orange cookies for the allotted time or until lightly browned.
Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
In a clean mixing bowl, beat the butter until fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and orange extract. Beat until smooth.
Frost the top of cookies and place on wire rack. In a small saucepan melt the butter and chocolate together.
Drizzle over top of frosted orange cookies and let set to harden.
Sprinkle with sliced almonds, if desired, immediately after drizzling with the chocolate.
